Arnold Schwarzenegger comeback film “The Last Stand” failed miserably at the box office, the reason was the lack of fun factor. The audience did not get the kind of excitement they thought they would get from Schwarzenegger comeback film. Escape Plan offers something much better than his earlier film. Mikael Haffstrom, the Director of ‘Escape Plan’ made the movie in such a way so that it caters to the fan base of both starts. The trailer even pumped up the excitement quotient by showing a fight sequence between Stallone and Schwarzenegger in prison. Many critics say that the movie is pays homage to the ’80s and early ’90s action movies but i found it interesting and offers something for the younger generation. It distinguishes itself from the old-fashioned prison break movies.
Stallone plays the role of Ray Breslin,a man who has a set of skills and by using those skills he is able to break out of any prison in the world. His expertise is used by agencies and governments around the globe to test the efficiency of their prison security. Breslin also wrote a book on how to design a maximum security prison. But he rarely knows that his own knowledge will be used against him. His partners include 50 Cent who plays the role of a “techno thug” and Amy Ryan (who do not act as his love interest). They got a $5 million contract from a elite military agency who has designed the ultimate prison for criminals. Breslin takes this offer as a challenge but his tracking chip was destroyed he was knocked unconscious by a group of masked offers who was arranged to pick and take him to the secret prison, the location of which was unknown.
Breslin wakes up in a plexiglass cage inside the maximum security prison. Later he comes to know that the maximum security prison was designed by a man, played by James Caviezel. He used the same techniques mentioned by Breslin in his book. Breslin later found that he has been set up by someone from his past?
Breslin eventually meets fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) who introduces himself to Breslin. Later Rottmayer assists Breslin to create escape route from the prison. The scenes follow one after the other without any drag. We will leave the escaping part from the prison like that. The tactics used by Breslin is hard to believe like develops makeshift items such as sextants out of a pen, some eyeglasses and a rubber band.
The presence of Stallone and Schwarzenegger lights up the screen. They also show intense harmony in their actions and dialogs. Schwarzenegger mockingly informs Stallone, “You hit like a vegetarian” during a fight sequence. Jim Caviezel also provides a extraordinary performance as the warden. His soft-spoken intellectualism and wickedness shines throughout his role. Brilliant actors like Dr. Emil Kaikev, Farhan Thahir as Javeed, Vincent D’Onofrio as Lester Clark, Breslin’s Manager also plays their part with excellence.Farhan Thahir was utilized very well in his short screen time.
Watch Escape Plan if you are a Stallone or Schwarzenegger fan, you won’t regret it.
